A Country I would like to visit

I would like to visit many countries. To be honest, I would like to go back to many countries I already have visited...and I'm sure I'll go back there...certainly when the pandemic is over.

One country I think about from time to time as a place to visit is Ethiopia. Ethiopia is located in East Africa. Being in Africa it has a lot in common with other countries around it: A variety of ethnic groups and lifestyles, rich flora and fauna, breathtaking landscapes, and a rather tropical climate, although in many parts of the country the climate is modified by altitude.

My cousin works in Africa, in Burundi to be specific, and she has said that Ethiopia is probably the most interesting and recommendable as a place to visit.

Ethiopia has some very unique features and aspects. The dominant ethnic group, the Amhara people, speak a language distantly related to Arabic as it is a Semitic language. Their predominant religion is Orthodox Christian as they converted to Christianity in the 5th Century (a long long time ago), even before Islam became dominant in that part of the world. In fact, Ethiopia remained an independent state/kingdom for over 1,000 years resisting attempts at islamization. Later in the 1930s, they resisted an Italian invasion under Mussolini. They are one of the few African countries to never be a colony.

Besides the many historic artifacts, such as ancient unique churches that are UNESCO world heritage sites, they have great food (which I have tried), an interesting culture, gorgeous landscapes, nature, fauna and flora, regions that are cool and rainy, and others that are among the hottest in the world. This country has a lot of variety.

As a bizarre little note, I took a genetic test, and it said I was 0.2% "Ethiopian"--I have no idea how that connected into my family, but maybe it's a sign I should visit there...hahaha. No, seriously, I would like to visit this country.

  14. Hello Sir!

Your ideas reminded me back in the day when I was at school and history teachers told us about the campaings of the World War II in East Africa and its repercussions in countries like Ethiophia but being honest, I never heard more about it. It looks like an interesting place to visit, considering that has a huge history along with a rich and diverse culture. Not to mention that it is an area where a lot of lifestyles have converged through the years, so I think that variety itself is intertwined in a very special and remarkable spot to visit indeed!

I will consider visiting it someday! Thank you for sharing!
